Forecasting the 2015 Presidents Cup: August 19th

Round and round they go.
The 2015 Presidents Cup is less than two months away, with Team USA and the Internationals set to tee it up at Jack Nicklaus GC in Korea during the second week of October, and both teams are starting to take shape. Since the inception of this event in 1994, Team USA have dominated with a 9-1-1 record, taking their only loss back in 1998 at Royal Melbourne.
The two tables below show the current standings for Team USA and the Internationals with their ten qualified players and just like the posts I did for the Ryder Cup last year, clicking on each player will take you to a page with their complete match play record. From there, I’ll mention the next ten players who are on the outside looking in, give some quick thoughts on the current group, and I’ll make my captains picks, but unlike the Ryder Cup, captains Jay Haas and Nick Price will only be selecting two players for their captains picks and not three.

Jason Day won his first major championship on Sunday at Whistling Straits, as he held off Jordan Spieth to claim the 2015 PGA Championship.

Have you ever gone on YouTube and realized that two hours later, you’re still watching Seve Ballesteros videos? What about Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, or instructional videos from Bobby Jones? You can get caught in an endless number of rabbit holes on YouTube, especially if you know where to look and so I figured that I could probably turn some of these videos into actual posts. We’ll keep it light, embed the videos and have some fun with screenshots, GIFs and commentary. If something has been bolded, you can click on it for more information.
Today, we’ll take a look at the first professional victory in the career of Tiger Woods, the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational at TPC Summerlin.
Open Championship Thoughts

The 2015 Open Championship was so wonderfully weird and awesome. We had the best young American player in decades chasing history, compelling talents trying to climb the major mountain for the first time and a legend said goodbye to the world’s most iconic venue. If that wasn’t enough, we had a weather delay that seemed incredibly avoidable and the 54-hole lead was shared by an a relatively obscure amateur attempting to become the first non-professional to win the Open sine Bobby Jones in 1930. In short, it was a lot of fun and one of the best major championships we’ve seen in a long, long time. Below are some thoughts on the events that unfolded over the past five days as we saw Zach Johnson become the 2015 Champion Golfer of the Year.

The first piece is a quick betting preview, where Gino Bottero, Justin Bourne and myself select a favourite, someone from the middle of the pack and a long shot that we think has the best chance of winning. My three picks are Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer and Charl Schwartzel.

Can Tiger Woods win the Open Championship?

Tiger Woods has always said that he wouldn’t play in a tournament if he thought he couldn’t win it. The last time that happened was at the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, which included a second round 61, allowing Tiger to cruise to a seven shot win over Keegan Bradley and Henrik Stenson. Of course, as we all know, the last time Tiger won a major championship was the 2008 U.S. Open when he defeated Rocco Mediate in an 18 hole playoff at Torrey Pines.
Depending on the book you use, Tiger is currently sitting around 35-1 to win the Open Championship this week. So, what we can we expect out of the 241st ranked player in the world at St. Andrews? Can he win?

Rickie wins the Scottish Open.
Rickie Fowler made birdie on the final hole at Gullane on Sunday, besting Matt Kuchar by one shot to take the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

Danny Lee won the Greenbrier Classic on Sunday in West Virginia, outlasting Robert Streb, Kevin Kisner and David Hearn in a playoff for his first PGA Tour victory.
Thoughts on the 2015 U.S. Open

It was a pretty crazy week, wasn’t it? So much happened at Chambers Bay that instead of trying to wrap up just the final round, I’m going to post some thoughts in point form and we’ll see how long it gets. Also, please make sure that you read both Kyle Porter and Shane Ryan on Sunday’s crazy finish. They’re both more than worth your time.
