Golf GIFs of the Week: January 25th

It was a fun week, with Jason Dufner returning from the wilderness to pick up his first win since the 2013 PGA Championship, and Rickie Fowler taking the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch as much of the CareerBuilder Challenge as I wanted to, so I won’t have a full recap of Dufner’s win like I did with Fowler’s, but before we get to the GIFs of the Week, I do have some quick thoughts:
- Great to see Dufner back in the fold, as he’s simply too good of a ball striker to not be in contention on a frequent basis and he’s one of those guys that just makes golf more fun when he’s part of the action. The big thing for him this week was that the putter was very good, as he finished with a strokes gained total of +1.478. If that kind of play continues, he’s going to be a threat wherever he tees it up.
- Big fan of David Lingmerth as well, who blistered the weekend with a 62-65 to give Dufner all he could handle. He’s a very hit and miss player, but when he’s on, he can run as hot as nearly anyone in the game right now.
- Loved seeing the Stadium Course back in the rotation, and that “bunker” on 16 is absolutely insane. Pete Dye is the best
- Phil finished tied for third, and gave one of his typical interviews after the final round, telling Steve Sands that the work he’s doing with new swing coach Andrew Getson is allowing him to have better “face awareness”. I can’t tell you what that means, and I’m not sure that Phil can either, but hey, whatever works. Having an in-form Mickelson would be fantastic, but I still feel like we’re looking at a situation where he’s going to contend in four or five tournaments and maybe come away with one win, versus this being a “turn back the clock” type of year. I hope I’m wrong, but we’ll see.
