Who should replace Greg Norman at FOX?

Late on Sunday night, LINKS Magazine reported that Greg Norman was being dumped by Fox after only one year as Joe Buck’s colour man for USGA events and on Monday, the USGA confirmed the news in a press release. Officially, the term used is that the sides “parted ways”, and realistically, it’s possible that Norman wasn’t exactly enamoured with the role but based on a quick Q&A that Norman did with LINKS, it definitely seems like he was shown the door:

Fabian Gomez wins the Sony Open

Fabian Gomez held off a group of contenders on Sunday at the Sony Open, eventually beating Brandt Snedeker in a playoff to capture his second career PGA Tour win.

What Happened

On Sunday at Waialae, five players were seemingly near the top of the board all day in the final round. Snedeker and Zac Blair were tied at the top at 16-under par at the start of the round, and they were joined by Gomez, Kevin Kisner and Si Woo Kim. A pair of double bogeys derailed Kisner, who ended up shooting an even par round, while a bogey on the 13th ended any hopes for the 20-year old Kim. Blair was solid all day despite two bogeys and gave us one of the sauciest moments of the early season, stuffing this shot from 275 yards and calling it pretty much right at impact:

2016 Eurasia Cup: Match Play Records

This week, match play returns to the European Tour in the form of the biennial Eurasia Cup, held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Malaysia. Darren Clarke will be getting some practice in ahead of his captaincy at the Ryder Cup, as he leads Team Europe against Team Asia, captained by Jeev Milkha Singh.

The Europeans have the decided advantage in experience and on paper, they would appear to have a big edge in talent as well, especially with the additions of Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter as Clarke’s two captains picks.

Below are the records for each player playing this week across all match play events, along with the overall team record at the bottom. For those players who have played in match play previously, you can click on their names and see their expanded records.

Jordan Spieth dominates the Tournament of Champions

01.10.16 spieth point

What Happened

Jordan Spieth carried a five shot lead over Brooks Koepka going into Sunday at Kapalua, and even though I don’t think anyone really expected him to be caught, the way that Spieth went about running over the field was incredible to watch and the most amazing thing about it might be that he made it look completely and utterly routine. If there was any chance that he was going to be caught, Koepka or someone further back was going to have to fire something really low and hope that Spieth came back at least a little bit. The latter part of that equation was answered almost immediately, as Spieth set the tone with a long birdie on the second hole:

Rebooting Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf

Shell's Wonderful World of Golf logo

Last week, Golf Channel gave golf fans a great Christmas present if they turned on their televisions: a marathon of Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, featuring broadcasts from both the original run in the 1960’s and 70’s and the most recent reboot from the 90’s and early 2000’s. In case you’re unaware, Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf was a made for TV event featuring players going head to head with interviews throughout the round and it provided some local knowledge as well, frequently talking about any tourist attractions in the area or anything else that would be of interest to the viewer throughout the hour. For an idea of what it looked like, take a look at a tiny portion here from 1968 where Sam Snead took on Roberto DeVicenzo at Congressional.
