Tiger Woods returns this week at Isleworth

Tiger Woods is back this week at his own tournament, the Hero World Challenge at Isleworth in Florida. The former world number one hasn’t been seen since he missed the cut at the PGA Championship a few months ago at Valhalla, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been in the news, as he recently hired Chris Como as his new swing coach after parting with Sean Foley and decided to go after writer Dan Jenkins for what he thought was an unfair “interview”.
So, what can we expect in Tiger’s latest return to professional golf? Let’s take a look.
Jordan Spieth wins the Australian Open

When the Australian Open started four days ago, there were three players in the field that stood out above the rest: Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy. From the very beginning, it looked like one of them was going to be lifting the Stonehaven Trophy as the victor, but it’s safe to say that no one thought that it was going to end in the way that it did.

Rory McIlroy already had the Race to Dubai wrapped up last week, but the DP World Tour Championship still had a quality field with lots on the line. Henrik Stenson was able to come away victorious for the second consecutive year, and you can see the best photos, GIFs and videos listed below.

When Tiger Woods announced on his website that he was splitting with swing coach Sean Foley, just about every coach in golf was pegged as a potential replacement. Tiger going at it on his own was also an idea that was floated by many, but the former world number one has decided to go in a different direction, selecting 34-year old Texas-based instructor Chris Como as his new coach.

Covering the daily and weekly news in the world of professional golf can sometimes make it difficult to appreciate the smaller reasons why this game can be so great, so welcome to the Little Things, a look at aspects of the game that can sometimes go unnoticed. Today, I’m taking a look at the bunkering at Metropolitan Golf Club in Australia.
This week, the Australian Masters is being held at Metropolitan Golf Club, a fantastic sandbelt course that was originally designed over 100 years ago by J.B. Mackenzie, with the legendary Alister MacKenzie providing suggestions later on and American architect Dick Wilson giving the course further touch ups. Metro is well known amongst the players and it has become one of the game’s most underrated courses. From Wikipedia:

Covering the daily and weekly news in the world of professional golf can sometimes make it difficult to appreciate the smaller reasons why this game can be so great, which is why I’m going to start periodically posting a new feature: The Little Things. First up is a look at the swing of 2010 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen.

Brooks Koepka fired a 65 this morning and won the Turkish Airlines Open, finishing one shot ahead of Ian Poulter. It’s his first win as a professional on a major tour, and it really feels like this could be the start of something huge for the 24-year old American.

The 15th anniversary of Payne Stewart’s passing

Fifteen years ago today, Payne Stewart passed away when the plane he was travelling in crashed in South Dakota. There were no survivors among the six people on board.
There are so many reasons why Stewart was great for the game of golf, and I just wanted to share this video from David Feherty back in 2005. It still hurts that he’s not around.
Ted Bishop calls Ian Poulter a “Lil Girl”

UPDATE: Bishop has been removed as PGA of America president and Jason Sobel has the details. Harsh in my opinion.
You’d think that people involved with the American Ryder Cup team would like to take focus away from the event that they’ve won twice in the last two decades, but PGA of America president Ted Bishop has managed to not only keep the fire burning, but also found a way to stick his foot firmly in his mouth.
