Brendon Todd wins the Byron Nelson Championship

Brendon Todd was able to hang on Sunday at Las Colinas and win his first PGA Tour event at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

What Happened

Todd shared the final round lead with Louis Oosthuizen, carrying a one-shot advantage over a slew of players, including the surprising Mike Weir, who was contending for the first time in a PGA Tour event in over five years. Weir started out hot, with four birdies on his first five holes and it wasn’t the putter doing the work like it was in the first three rounds, as Weir’s ball striking was really on point.

Martin Kaymer wins the Players Championship

Martin Kaymer survived a weather delay, and some suspect play down the stretch, to win the 2014 Players Championship under darkness at TPC Sawgrass.

What Happened

Coming into the day, Kaymer was tied at the top with Jordan Spieth at 12-under par but some notable names also lurked at just three shots back, as John Senden, Sergio Garcia and after a controversial rules decision (more on that in a second), Justin Rose was also in the mix at 9-under par. Kaymer jumped out in front early as Spieth struggled, and despite some quality play from Garcia, Rose and Jim Furyk, Kaymer carried a three shot lead as the horn blew on the 14th hole thanks to inclement weather.

Hi Jack!

Hi Jack!

J.B. Holmes’ first win in over six years at the Wells Fargo Championship wasn’t the most exciting of finishes, but Quail Hollow proved once again that it is a tremendous track and one of the very best on the PGA Tour. It also provided some pretty fun moments, but some of the best stuff actually came from the Champions Tour this week, most notably the Legends of Golf scramble format from Saturday. Here’s the best from the last few days in pictures and GIFs.

J.B. Holmes wins at Quail Hollow

J.B. Holmes was able to get his first PGA Tour win on Sunday at Quail Hollow since the 2008 FBR Open, finishing one shot ahead of Jim Furyk at the 2014 Wells Fargo Championship.

What Happened

If you’ve been paying attention to the PGA Tour this season, one of the common themes has been big name players having an inability to close out tournaments when in position on Sunday. Holmes was playing in the final group with Martin Flores on Sunday, but with Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose right behind them, the thought was that they would push Holmes and Flores, but that didn’t really happen. Jim Furyk was able to post a 13-under par number early with a great final round 65, but outside of that, the push didn’t really come.

Derek Ernst and too much, too soon

Let me start this off by saying that I don’t know Derek Ernst at all. Outside of knowing that he’s a professional golfer, I have no inside information on the kind of person he is or where his head’s at this week as he gets set to defend at Quail Hollow. It’s that win last year that has me curious about him though, and as weird as it is to say, I actually feel bad for the guy.

Two long shot underdogs came through on the PGA and European Tour this week in Seung-yul Noh and Alexander Levy, while Lydia Ko won her first event as a professional and moved to number two in the women’s world rankings. Not bad for a 17-year old. Here’s the best in photos and GIFs from the past week.

Seung-yul Noh wins the Zurich Classic

What Happened

Seung-yul Noh sat at the top of a very underwhelming leaderboard after a day where he was just striping the ball all over TPC Louisiana. His biggest challenger should have been playing partner Keegan Bradley, and Bradley started out hot and actually took the lead at one point before lipping out about seven separate birdie putts, which took him out of it. Other players on the board made a bit of a charge, but none of Andrew Svoboda, Robert Streb or Jeff Overton really forced Noh’s hand in any serious way. Noh played incredibly solid golf, especially on the back nine, and he walked away with his first PGA Tour win.

Matt Kuchar wins at Harbour Town

Matt Kuchar was able to post a Sunday 64 to edge Luke Donald by one and take the 2014 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town.

What Happened

Luke Donald entered the day with the lead, but it was quickly seized by Kuchar who started his day with an opening nine 30, and at points, actually had a three-shot lead. Donald and Ben Martin would apply some pressure though, and when Kuchar got to the par-3 17th, the lead was down to one when he hit this approach:
